Protactinium was first known as Brevium
when it was discovered in 1913
identified during experiments
by Kasimir Fajans and Otto Gohring

my halflife that they encountered
was merely a minute and a tenth
so Brevium seemed an appropriate
name for this new element

but later on in 1918
Otto Hahn and Lise Meitener of Germany
and frederick Soddy and John Cranston
who were both scientists from England
isolated my isotope
two hundred and thirty one
and decided a more appropriate name for me would be
Protoactinium

But then again in 1949
my name was changed to Protactinium
Arisitid Grosse prepared 2 milligrams
of me in a high temperature vacuum

In 1961 the UK Atomic Energy Authority
was able to produce 125 grams of pure me
by processing 60 tons of nuclear waste
in a purification process that had twelve stages
and was the only world supply
for many years to come
and sold to laboratories
for $2800 dollars per gram
