Designations

A range of real estate designations is offered to brokers and salespeople by institutes and organizations. A limited listing is provided as Figure D.2 for designations included in the encyclopedia. For detailed information, see under appropriate designation.

Land Use Designations

Intended uses for all lands within a prescribed area, norm­ally a municipal jurisdiction (often referred to as land use categories or land use zones). Terminology used to designate specific areas varies, based on local needs. Here are two examples of land use designations for a predominantly urban environment and a rural township containing recreational areas.

Individual land use designations are subsequently broken down into applicable regulations, e.g., specific types of uses, permitted structures, and detailed specifications.
